Juneau hiker dies after 100-foot fall on Salmon Creek Trail Saturday
Tragedy struck on Saturday near Juneau when a hiker fell to his death on the Salmon Creek Trail according to Alaska State Troopers.
At approximately 3:30 p.m., Troopers received a report that 64-year-old William Milks of Juneau had fallen more than 100 feet from the trail during a group hike.
Witnesses say Milks accidentally tripped and lost his footing before falling off the side of the trail. Juneau Mountain Rescue teams responded quickly, rappelling down to reach him.
Unfortunately, Milks did not survive the fall. His body was transported to the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Anchorage for autopsy. Next of kin were on scene and have been notified.
Officials remind hikers to exercise caution while on challenging trails.
